Two distinct forms
Mass
A metal object, made for writing.
A desk pen with the weight and feel of metal, rendered into a form for writing. The design forgoes ornamentation, with precision-cutting giving it the illusion of a single, seamless block of metal.
Born in 1981, Yamazaki graduated from Tokyo Design Academy. After working as a designer for a manufacturing company, he relocated to Italy in 2011, founding Alloy in 2012 upon his return to Japan. Specialising in working with metals, he approaches his craft from both an engineering and a design perspective.
Brass develops a deep patina over time, while aluminium offers a light, crisp feel — the pen celebrates the inherent nature of each metal. Discover the distinctive feel and clean aesthetic of solid metal.
We considered a length that fits comfortably in the hand. The pen and stand have been designed to appear as one, while precision engineering ensures a seamless integration of the front cone.
Manufactured in a precision-machining factory specialising in automotive and medical equipment components that demand high accuracy. This precision is evident in the exceptionally smooth finish, engineered to the micrometre.
Fitted with the Schmidt easyFLOW 9000 medium refill. The line width ideal for signatures and the smoothness of oil-based ink deliver an effortless writing experience. Designed for the universal G2 refill, the pen ensures years of writing pleasure.

Buoy
A marker for writing, on your desk.
The soft, rounded form of the pen stand is inspired by a droplet of water. Like a buoy floating on the sea, gently showing the way, it awaits the writer in its place, always within reach. A timeless piece created to be the new standard for Kakimori.
Born in Tokyo in 1960, Koizumi is Professor Emeritus at Musashino Art University. He founded Koizumi Studio in 1990, and in 2003 established Koizumi Dougu-ten as a space to share design with the public. His work spans all kinds of design for everyday life, from architecture to chopstick rests. He continues to travel extensively across Japan, collaborating with regional communities of makers.
Crafted from beautifully grained Japanese cherry — our signature material. Its smooth touch and natural warmth develop a rich lustre and character with time and use. The brass front cone is given a matt clear finish to harmonise with the wood’s hues.
The form carries on the design of our ink bottle and nib holder. The opening of the pen stand is angled at the same 8 degrees as the ink bottle, mirroring the motion of dipping a nib in ink for smooth, effortless placement.
The pen body and stand are crafted by a workshop in Kumano, Hiroshima Prefecture, who continue the tradition of making wooden handles for Kumano brushes. The front cone is made by a small manufacturer in Tokyo, specialising in components for medical equipment and semiconductors. The pen brings together the best of traditional craft and specialist manufacturing.
